Blogmas Day 14: Christmas on Streaming
It’s Saturday again, and you know what that means! I’m back with more streaming hot takes, in case you need some fun activities for the day. Again, in the order they were watched…
Disclaimer: mild spoilers ahead ◡̈
Red One (Amazon Prime Video) is one I knew I couldn’t be bothered to watch, just not my thing. So, my dad watched and reviewed this one for us. And luckily for you action movie lovers, this review is spoiler free! He says: “It’s like Die Hard meets The Santa Clause crossed with Avengers: Infinity War. Not good, but something new to watch.” Aka: for me, these are a few of my least favorite things! That said, I know my husband would like this one!
Bottom line: 3 (2.87 he said) out of 5 red ones, whatever those are!
That Christmas (Netflix) was an incredibly charming animated watch. To simply explain, imagine Love Actually (which is hilariously featured in the movie), but cartoonized. It’s the tale of a group of people, all somehow connected, experiencing a very snowy Christmas with disaster at every turn. It features a little bit of love, a lot of shenanigans, and even Santa himself. I laughed, I cried, and I thoroughly enjoyed the animation.
Bottom line: 5 out of 5 Christmas almost cakes
An Almost Christmas Story (Disney+) was a real gem. If I thought the animation in That Christmas was great, this animation was stunning. Strange and cardboard and absolutely stunning. This is a short, so I’m going to keep this short, too. An unlikely pair (Luna and Moon) meet in NYC, separated from their families, and help each other to get home. This one made me weep and is a must watch this holiday season. Carve out 25 minutes for it!
Bottom line: 7 out of 5 evolved pigeons, loved it!
A Sudden Case of Christmas (Hulu) was a cute watch with a stacked cast, featuring Wilmer Valderrama, Danny Devito, and Andie MacDowell, to name a few. Claire’s family usually travels from America to her grandpa’s hotel in Italy for Christmas, but a summer trip to Italy has everyone on edge. Turns out her parents are splitting up, and they’ve made the trek to hopefully ease the blow when they tell her the news. In a parent trap esque maneuver of manipulation, Claire insists that they celebrate one last Christmas together as a family, in the summer. Cute fresh take on a “Christmas” movie.
Bottom line: 4 out of 5 winter girlfriends
Currently listening to: “Under the Tree” by Ed Sheeran
