Blogmas Day 7: Christmas on Netflix
As if I’d ever give up the tradition of giving you my hot takes on the Netflix holiday selection. I’m here to keep you informed or save you time, and if you’re lucky, both. Seriously though, I love a cheesy holiday movie! They’re good for the soul. And so, in the order I watched them…
Disclaimer: mild spoilers ahead
Hot Frosty was definitely a… quaint first holiday watch. Starring none other than Gretchen Wieners and (a very different looking) Ted Mullens, the best two worlds collide in this truly chaotic Christmas flick. Kathy (Lacey Chabert) is a widow who owns a diner in her small town and spends all of her time working, rather than tending to her home in disrepair. Jack (Dustin Milligan) is an oddly anatomically correct snowman who is brought to life one night when Kathy wraps her scarf around him. And thankfully, his days as a snowman taught him everything he needed to know about HVAC repair. Nothing hotter, am I right? And the the rest, they say? Is truly silly history.
Bottom line: 3 out of 5 red scarves, very bad, but would watch again
Meet Me Next Christmas was a super fun holiday watch. While predictable, it definitely strayed from the typical holiday-movie-formula, and that alone was very refreshing! The story starts with Layla (Christina Milian, who is hotter than ever) experiencing 1.5 meet cutes at the airport during a major flight delay, as she’s trying to get home to spend the holidays with her boyfriend. She’s so taken by one of her airport suitors that they both commit to meeting each other at the annual NYC Pentatonix concert the following year, should she find herself single. And, of course, she finds herself single. In her pursuit to get tickets to the sold out concert, her heart is pulled in a different direction…
Bottom line: 4 out of 5 Pentatonix tickets, I mean just look at this stunning cast!
Okay, so, I did not happen to catch the trailer for The Merry Gentlemen before watching, and I think I was all the merrier for it. In fact, if you’ve not yet seen the trailer, actively avoid it, and please watch this movie! I don’t even want to give too much away, but you know the drill. Small-town girl (Ashley) loses her job (as an off brand Rockette) in the big city, and has to go back home, where she finds that her parents music venue/bar is failing. Fortunately, the local handyman, Luke (HAHAHAHAHA, CMM as Luke?! OTH fans are laughing) and a couple of friendly townsmen are able to save the bar in the most unexpected way possible. You will laugh, and you will cry (from laughing).
Bottom line: 2 out of 5 “doctors”, but would’ve been 1 if I hadn’t been so surprised
And as luck would have it, my chronological order just so happened to save the best for last. Our Little Secret definitely had the full attention and budget from Netflix this year. Avery (a stunning Lindsay Lohan) breaks up with childhood/high school/college sweetheart, Logan, when she moves out of the country, trying to escape grief after losing her mother. Ten years later, Avery and Logan are happy-ish in other relationships, but have an unexpected holiday run-in with each other because, OH NO, their respective significant others are siblings. Warm holiday hilarity ensues. Cheesy? Yes. Did I love it? Also, yes. ALSO, Kristin Chenoweth!!
Bottom line: 5 out of 5 special gummies, will now be in the holiday rotation
Okay, what a I watching next?
