BlogOWeen Day 3: Watch Worthy for Halloween
Happy Spooky Saturday! I'm definitely under the weather, seeing as it's a beautiful fall day and I'm feeling cruddy. No worries though, because that gives me every excuse to binge watch all my Halloween favorites this weekend! I wanted to share some new-to-me watches with you, in case you're on the hunt for something with a little scare!
Just for fun, let's go in chronological order of when these films and were released!
House on Haunted Hill 1959 - Starring Vincent Price (who has the coolest voice of all time), this is Clue minus the comedic relief. Back in its day, it might've left you with a few nightmares, but now, it's the perfect amount of spooky + terrible special effects = will give you a scare, but not keep you up all night!
Final verdict: 7 out of 10 screaming bansheesPrivate Eyes 1980 - Starring Don Knotts (a fellow West Virginian), this is a classic whodunnit, following two less-than-stellar detectives, out to solve a murder. It's funny and warm, and the perfect Halloween movie if you're in the mood for something light on the scare factor.
Final verdict: 9 out of 10 bubbling cauldronsHigh Spirits 1988 - I'm not sure who would be considered the star of this slapstick horror film, but Daryl Hannah is involved, and seeing as I still want to be a mermaid when I grow up, she was enough to sell me. A fun watch for Mel Brooks fans (can't believe this isn't his film, but vibes are so similar!), and you'll be surprised to see a very young, very famous actor throughout.
Final verdict: 6 out of 10 flying broomsticksHaunted Mansion 1993 - I'm certain I've seen this one before, but not that I truly remembered. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much, but this movie is a gem. It's spooky and heartwarming, a real reminder of how much I love Eddie Murphy, and lots of Disney fun.
Final verdict: 8 out of 10 zombies walkingMonster Inside: America's Most Extreme Haunted House 2023 - If we backtrack to BlogOWeen a few years ago, I posted about McKamey Manor, an extreme immersive haunted house experience ran by Russ McKamey. The gist? For the low price of a can of dog food, Russ McKamey will take you through a haunt that will push your limits in every way. Complete the haunt (no one ever has), and you'll get $20k. This documentary details the true experiences of employees and hauntees through the real life terror that Russ and his haunt have inflicted.
Final verdict: 5 out of 10 spooky scary skeletons
What have you been watching so far this spooky season? Be on the lookout for part two of my Halloween watches!
